Red Hill
It is located 16km away from Imphal and approx 28 km away from Moirang.
It has a great historical value as in 1944 the great battle of second world war "Normandy of the east" happen here on a small hillock -now know as Red Hill.
This name came from the huge loss of lives from both sides, especially the Japanese,the Common wealth troop, and those who fought on the Japanese side with Subhash Chandra Bose’s INA.
Today, the is locally known as Maibam Lotpaching, is
a peace memorial.It was constructed by
the Japanese government and inaugurated in 1994, to mark the 50th
anniversary of the Battle of Imphal.
But it is an important location for both Indian as well as Japanese war veterans.
Tharon cave
It is located at about 27 km away from the district HQ of Tamenglong District.Tamenglong district of Manipur has a topography of irregular undulation with turbulent rivers,caves, lakes, and dense tropical forests covering the land and the series of seven waterfalls along the river Barak.
Water Falls in Tanmenglong
This district contains virgin forests, and wildlife.The dense tropical evergreen forests are located along the riversides across the district.
The Tharon cave (Chalem-Ky) there is a map of the entire cave is engraved and painted on a stone at the main entrance which gives a clear picture of the alleys and turns inside the cave. Archeological excavation of the cave shows connections to the Hoabinhian culture of North Vietnam.The cave itself is 655.5 meters long and has 34 joints and 5 exits.A good ventilation system in the cave ensures that there is ample air circulation inside.
