This is a tall tower situated in the centre of the Bir Tirkendrajit Park ,is a memorial for those who died against the British while fighting (the great Anglo-Manipuri war ) in the Meitei Revolt in 1891.
It is also known as Martyr's Memorial.
In an attempt to generate fear into the people of Mnipur or to avoid any further uprisings for freedom, Yubaraj Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal General of Manipur were hanged at this spot on 13th August,1891 by British Government in front of huge public gathering. Around 8,000 women wearing white cloths and gathered to show their solidarity to the Prince and General.
A diffident reaction was generated in the public mind against British when their General laughed before being hanged –which given more strength and more determination to the Manipuris.
Bir Tikendrajit Park is on the way from Kangla Fort to Ima market.
